In this first of three 6-hour courses, Michael Oliver and Kasey Mire will draw on the disciplines of Permaculture, Holistic Management, Radical Mycology, and more to give students a refreshing approach to ethical design and decision-making. While subjects are geared toward food sustainability and self-reliance, class will discuss how sensible ethics can be applied in virtually any decision-making scenario.

Specific topics discussed will include:

• Permaculture ethics
• holistic decision-making
• zoning concepts
• resource management
• stacking time and functions
• biomimicry
• sustainable v. regenerative
• climate awareness
• adaptability and preparedness
• economic ecology
• design integration and application.

Students are asked to bring a print-out of their backyard, land plot, or any other space they would like to design using permaculture concepts. Class will participate in a design exercise and will receive one-on-one support from instructors.

As a student, you will learn: how to make practical decisions that integrate individual, societal, and planetary health. You will take away: a course outline, resource handout, and individualized design sketch-up created by you with aid from instructors.
