JULY AND AUGUST: PREPARATIONS

For San Antonio and surrounding area students, we will schedule at least 2 days for a medicine making session.  More information is posted on our preparations page.

For students outside of the SA area:  as part of the mobile clinic setup, students will work as a team to ensure all team members have adequate food and supplies.  More information is posted on our preparations page.

September 7th:  All tuitions for this course are required to be paid in full by September 7th, 2017.

ADVANCE PARTY PLANNING

Our clinical week will include the off-grid engineer team as well as the scout team beginning projects before the clinical portion begins on September 16th.  We will assign all team members with advance preparation tasks prior to the trip as part of the clinical experience.  The preparations page will have information on this.

The advance planning will involve students working in small groups to plan out travel logistics, equipment inventory, community outreach for the Navajo, team food provisions and planning, medicine making, etc.

TRAVEL CARAVANS

An advance student team will be assigned to organize the logistics around who is coming in from where, who needs to join a carpool, and when and where to synch up with team members.  Make sure to check the preparations page to coordinate travel.  We will list team leaders on that page (and distribute contact information off-line only).

We will post information on this page for travel logistics.

The Quality Inn & Restaurant in Window Rock, AZ is a good choice for lodging for those coming in early.  Information is here

SEPTEMBER: THE CLINIC

9/15:  All caravans and individual teams will meet in a designated town close to Window Rock, AZ.  We will post that information here as soon as the location is confirmed.

9/15:  Mid-day — We will do a required ‘cultural in-briefing’ led by Sam to bring all team members up to speed on working with the communities we will see.  We will do that at a specified location for all team members to attend.  Afterwards, all team members will depart from there and travel to the reservation at Window Rock, AZ. Students arriving after the briefing meeting will need to attend a later meeting with Sam.

The $100 Food/Materials fee is due by 9/15 and turned in to Suchil in cash.

9/16: This will be both a prep day for the clinical week and the community projects we are doing as well as a Provider food prep day.  Our hosting family will walk students through a traditional harvest which will provide meat for the week for those who have meat as part of their diets.

9/17 – 9/20:  Clinic hours will begin roughly at 9 am and end approximately at 5 pm each day.  We may have 1-2 evening clinics for those who can not make the daytime clinic hours.  More information is posted on the ‘what to expect’ page.

9/21:  9 to noon.  The team should be finished by mid-day.  The SA team should depart by early afternoon for Texas.  Those traveling by plane can coordinate to travel back to the closest airport.
