You’ve heard of the concept, now learn exactly how to create all your essential pantry staples by combining and storing bulk staples to make sure your pantry can get you through anything from a power outage to lean times. You’ll find out how to extend canned or bulk goods and how to properly stock for emergencies, how to choose shelf-stable foods for long term food storage, nutritional value of pantry goods, food for morale, how to make many things from basic staples and more.
This class focuses on all aspects of the home pantry in both sustainable living and post-disaster preparedness. We will discuss preservation (drying, canning, fermentation), nutrition, getting the most “bang for your buck” from staple items, herbs and spices, and things you can make at home instead of “buying a box” at the grocery store. Students will take home notes, handouts, and recipes.
LOCATION: The Herban Path, 602 W. French Place, San Antonio
