The Medic: Triage and Establishing a Command Post
Following natural disasters and emergencies, triage and command posts are often set up to act as a central communication hub for managing a disaster and organizing care for those most critically injured. There can frequently be chaos, disorganization and a slow response to affected areas when response teams are overwhelmed by the sheer volume of need and volunteers are untrained.
This is a 4-hour hands on workshop where we will discuss and build an emergency command post to become familiar with everything from emergency communications to triage efforts to working collaboratively with other response organizations. Students will get practice running through several mock scenarios on how to run the command post and become an asset to a medic team or community.
We will cover:
- An introduction to setting up an incident command system (ICS)
- Coordination with local and federal agencies
- Establishing communications in the command system
- An introduction to triage care: how to manage multiple injuries
- Hands-on scenario work
Dates: April 20th, 2019. 9:30am – 1:30pm
Pre-Requisite: none required.
Location: Directions will be emailed out to all registered students prior to the workshop.
