From Intake to Wellness: Clinical Case Management for the Herbalist – 2024

Registration Ends April 8, 2024
$210 – 245
Start Date: Mar 25
Start Time: 7:00 pm
End Time: 9:00 pm

This is an online course. You can participate from anywhere you have an internet connection.

This 6-week module is designed to increase the clinical herbalist’s proficiency of managing clinical cases and improving client outcomes through weekly study and practice of developing SOAP notes and wellness plans for clients.

How can we develop effective protocols for our clients? How do we integrate our botanical formulas into a wellness strategy that meets the client’s health goals? Many cases require us to evaluate and modify our botanical formulas over time as the client progresses through multiple stages of healing. How do we predict when a client should see improvement?

The successful clinical herbalist must integrate knowledge of the materia medica, anatomy and physiology, health and disease pattern, functional assessment, psycho-social variables and more to have a successful outcome through botanical therapies. This course will take the student through the different steps of integrating these areas to create a successful case, whether a clinic walk-up client with a single consultation, or a client following a longer-term strategy with multiple follow-ups.

We will develop strategies and tools for management of clinical cases ranging from the simple or acute (e.g. urinary tract infection) to the complex and chronic (e.g. SIBO, autoimmune diseases, metabolic syndrome) and practice intakes, SOAP notes and wellness plans.

Broken into modules for easy learning and systematic value, this course takes a complex subject and makes it immediately applicable for the clinical student. Homework assignments and live classes allow the student to participate and understand how to link their pathophysiology knowledge with questions, herbal formulations and protocols. The student will also learn how to develop and apply tools which can be used in their own practice.

Topics include:

  • Preparation for the consultation or clinic
  • Conducting comprehensive client interviews and time constraints
  • Writing SOAP notes
  • Creating and interpreting food diaries, symptom trackers and other tools
  • Assessing secondary data (labs, current medications and supplements)
  • Developing the botanical protocol (or series of protocols)
  • Designing a wellness strategy
  • The wellness plan as a client communication tool
  • Predicting outcomes and follow-up care
  • Preparing and presenting a case study
