The Nervous System for Herbalists – August 2018

This is an online course. You can take this anywhere you have an internet connection. You do not have to be present in our area to take the course!
This 4-week, online course (2 live and recorded/downloadable classes per week) will focus on the nervous system anatomy, physiology and holistic physiology. Specific herbs and viewing the physiology of the nervous system through the eyes of the herbalist will be stressed as well.
The nervous system is a very complex physiological structure that does more than simply coordinating musculoskeletal actions. We will study the two major divisions of the nervous system (central and peripheral) as well as the autonomic, enteric and somatic nervous system. However, we will also explore the relationship between nervous system disorders and our sense of self. The concepts of stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, PTSD and other disorders that have a relationship with the nervous system itself.
We will cover basic anatomy and physiology of the nervous system to include synapses, myelination, action potentials and sensory physiology. We will also look at a number of various physical disorders of the nervous system and possible holistic approaches to:
- Trauma (physical and emotional) recovery
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Bell’s Palsy
- Trigeminal Neuralgia
Finally, we will examine root causes and holistic (nutrition, lifestyle and herbs) approaches to help deal with the emotional and psychological issues such as:
Live webinars will take place twice a week. Handouts, videos of webinars (for those who can’t make a class during its live presentation), Q & A forum and a final quiz will all be accessible through an online classroom.

Format: This is a 4-week long online interactive course.
There is a 4-week grace period after the last class week, to allow ample time for downloading content and finishing the course test. Access will close on 10/8/18.
